Former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, has claimed that England don’t have enough confidence to go all the way and win the 2026 World Cup.

Rooney was speaking on the BBC, after the Three Lions came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 in their last-32 clash on Wednesday.

Thomas Tuchel’s men two late goals from captain Harry Kane to seal victory.

Speaking at full time, Rooney said England would be in “big trouble” against a bigger team.

He said: “For me there are big concerns. We are all delighted England have gone through but in particular when England lose the ball they are so open.

“Against a better team I think we are in big trouble if we don’t sort that out.

“The connection isn’t great between the backline and midfield, the full-backs are struggling, [Noni] Madueke struggled.

“There are just no connections and big gaps in the middle of the pitch and that is a big worry for me.

“He [Tuchel] really needs to look at that otherwise we will go out.”

England are now set to play co-hosts Mexico on Monday for a place in the quarter-finals.

Javier Aguirre’s men are yet to concede a single goal and have won all four of their matches.

If the Three Lions should eliminate the Mexicans, they are very likely to take on Brazil next.
