The Nigerian naira maintained a steady posture against the US dollar on Thursday, July 2, 2026, showcasing relative stability across both the official market and the parallel market as the premium between the two segments continued to narrow.

According to live foreign exchange data, the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate opened at approximately ₦1,374.18 per US dollar on Thursday morning. This official figure represents the volume-weighted average of all completed trades executed within the formal banking system.

Concurrently, the parallel market experienced a slight appreciation for the local currency. Bureau de Change operators and street dealers quoted the dollar at around ₦1,385, marking a modest gain from the ₦1,390 rate recorded during the previous trading session.

This upward trajectory in the parallel market mirrors recent behaviors observed in the official window. Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria indicated that the NFEM rate fluctuated from an initial ₦1,376 per dollar down to about ₦1,369 in the preceding session before consolidating near the current Thursday morning average.

Financial analysts and market participants have tied this ongoing stability to sustained foreign exchange liquidity injections and the cumulative impact of the Central Bank’s structural reforms. These regulatory adjustments have significantly boosted transparency and transactional efficiency across trading platforms.

Going forward, market observers note that the short-term direction of the naira will remain tethered to the volume of foreign inflows, local import demands, the health of the external reserves, and broader investor sentiment.

Based on the prevailing official trade average of ₦1,374.18, a single US dollar converts to approximately ₦1,374.18, while ten dollars equals ₦13,741.80. For higher benchmarks, one hundred dollars trades at roughly ₦137,418, and a one-thousand-dollar transaction equates to about ₦1,374,180.
