Court remands 2 suspects for aiding bandits in Katsina

A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered the remand of Sani Mamman and Abubakar Umar, both residents of Katsina State suspected of aiding bandits.

Mamman, a resident of Ruwan godiya in Faskari Local Government was alleged to have been engaged sometimes in March 2025 to convey some suspected bandits to a forest in Faskari contrary to the provision of section 13 a, b and c of the Terrorism Prevention Act.

The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him saying he was not a driver but selling beans on wheel barrow and that though he lost his father, his mother is still living in Funtua.

His Prosecution counsel, Hadiza Adamu Yabani told the court that the suspect has been in detention since his arrest in March 2025.

Abubakar Umar, a resident of Rimi local government of Katsina State, was arrested on December 2nd, 2024, allegedly trying to convey arms and ammunition to bandits contrary to section 13 of the Terrorism Prevention Act.

He denied the charge saying he was not the one.

He told the court that farming and selling perishable items were his sources of income before his arrest.

The defendants’ counsel, H.A Kalmaten told the court that he took over the case from I.I Umar after consultation with the defendant.

Justice SM Shuaibu adjourned the matter to 7th and 8th of July for commencement of trial and the defendants to be remanded in a correctional facility within the jurisdiction of the court.
