Police arrest man for allegedly r@ping 5-year-old girl and three, three others over vandalisation of power cables in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Ahmed Abdullahi, for allegedly r@ping a five-year-old girl in Damaturu.

The spokesperson for the command,SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement said police also arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly dismantling and stealing power transformer feeder cables in Dapchi, Bursari Local Government Area of the state.

“The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), on 29th June, 2026, at about 1740hrs, arrested one Ahmed Abdullahi, 24 years old, of Dikumari area, Damaturu, for alleged r@pe of a five-year-old minor,” the statement read.

“The suspect voluntarily confessed to the alleged offence, while investigation is ongoing.”

According to the PPRO, on June 29, operatives of the Dapchi Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to the distress call about the vandalisation of power supply cables and arrested the suspects.

The statement said the suspects were found in possession of large quantities of vandalised power cables cut into pieces and suspected to have been prepared for sale.

“On 29th June, 2026, at about 0600hrs, following a report of vandalization of power supply cables, operatives of Dapchi Division swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested three suspects involved in the act,” the PPRO stated.

“The suspects are Danladi Saleh, 30 years old; Usman Ibrahim, 33 years old, both of Dapchi; and Mohammed Ali,  23 years old, of Geidam Local Government Area.

“The suspects were arrested with large quantities of vandalized cables cut into pieces, suspected to have been prepared for sale.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were responsible for dismantling feeder cables, which caused the collapse of some poles. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover more exhibits.”
