The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a driver, Adesola Ogunrotifa, who absconded with his employer’s car in Akure.

The spokesperson for the command, Abayomi Jimoh, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, July 9, 2026 said detectives tracked the suspect to Abuja, arrested him and recovered the stolen vehicle.

Jimoh said the arrest followed a complaint made by one Mrs Remilekun of Oba-Ile, Akure.

The complainant informed the police that she had employed the suspect as her personal driver in July 2025.

According to the woman, the suspect dropped her off at the CAC church in Akure, abandoned her and absconded with the car.

“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Felix Ohagwu psc, mnips, mspsp has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to combat crime and protect the lives and property of residents with the arrest of a suspected vehicle thief and the successful recovery of a stolen vehicle,” the statement read.

“The incident was reported on 5th July, 2026, by one Mrs. Remilekun of Oba-Ile, Akure. The complainant informed the Police that she had employed one Adesola Ogunrotifa, a 40-year-old man, as her personal driver in July 2025.

“According to her report, on Sunday, 5th July, 2026, the suspect drove her to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service. However, after dropping her off at the church premises, he abandoned her and unlawfully drove away with her Hyundai saloon car purportedly heading towards Abuja.

“Following the report, the Command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation. Acting on credible intelligence and deploying strategic investigative techniques, a team of detectives from B-division Akure painstakingly tracked the suspect to Abuja, where he was successfully apprehended. The stolen Hyundai saloon vehicle was also recovered intact.

“The suspect has since been charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the law.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, PSC, MNIPS, MSPSP, commended the professionalism and dedication displayed by the investigating team, whose swift and intelligence-driven operation led to the successful recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspect.

“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within or outside Ondo State. It also encourages members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring residents that every genuine complaint will receive prompt and professional attention.

The Ondo State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property while bringing offenders to justice.”
