Security will be increased for Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina in Atlanta, with local authorities announcing extra measures ahead of one of football’s biggest international rivalries.
The two nations will meet at Atlanta Stadium for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, with England aiming to reach the tournament’s showpiece match for the first time since 1966, while defending champions Argentina seek another appearance in the final.
Atlanta Police said additional officers and security resources will be deployed across the city to ensure the safety of fans and visitors attending the match.
Police step up security
In a statement, Atlanta Police outlined plans for enhanced security around the stadium and other busy locations.
“Additional personnel and resources are already deployed and will continue to be strategically assigned in and around the event venues, entertainment districts, and other high-traffic areas to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.”
