The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has vowed to prosecute an unidentified man caught on camera dumping refuse into a canal in Lekki.
The incident, which occurred along Salem Spar Road in the Ikate area, was captured on film by a vigilant resident. In the viral footage, the citizen can be heard confronting the suspect over the environmental violation before uploading the clip online.
Reacting to the development, Commissioner Wahab commended the resident for his civic responsibility and assured the public that the ministry would take decisive action.
The state government recently read the riot act to environmental offenders, stating that illegal waste disposal attracts a N250,000 fine or a three-month prison sentence.
