Malawi head coach, Lovemore Fazili has expressed confidence in his charges ahead of their Group C fixture against defending champions Nigeria, NEWSUNPLUG reports.
The debutants will open their campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations against the Super Falcons in Rabat on Tuesday night.
It will be the first meeting between both countries at this level.
Despite their underdog tag, Fazili said his team is ready to compete against the 10-time champions.
“I think what I can say is that we are going there to fight because we cannot go to the battlefield aiming to be killed. We are going there to fight, and I am sure the players are aware of that,” Fazili told a press conference on Monday.
The Copper Queens of Zambia, and Cleopatras’ of Egypt will meet in the other Group C game.
