Nigerian skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has reacted to rumours claiming that his relationship with Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has fallen apart.

The content creator dismissed the reports, revealing that their bond remains strong and that they are even closer despite not being seen together as frequently as before.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Kamo State opened up about his relationship with Akindele, whom he described as a major inspiration in his career. He also recalled how much he admired her even before they met, a love that later inspired him to name his daughter after the actress.

According to Kamo State, his first encounter with Funke Akindele happened on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa, where her warm personality and the way she treated him made a deep impression on him.

“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I loved her very much. The first time I saw her in person was on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa. I started calling her mummy because of how she treated me on set,” he said.

The skit maker explained that Akindele noticed his passion and commitment to his craft, which eventually opened doors for him to feature in some of her productions, including Ayetoro and Behind The Scene.

Addressing why fans have noticed fewer public appearances between them, Kamo State clarified that it has nothing to do with a disagreement. He attributed the speculation to their busy schedules and growing careers.

He noted that Funke Akindele has been focused on preparations for her upcoming December project, while his own career has also expanded, leaving both of them with more responsibilities.

“We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects,” he stated.

Kamo State also urged fans to ignore unfounded claims about their relationship, insisting that there is no conflict between him and the award-winning actress.

“There is no fight; don’t let people paint what doesn’t exist,” he added.
