Afrobeats superstar Davido has been drawn into a heated political exchange on social media just days before the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The controversy began on August 10, 2026, after X user @Onsogbu, identified as Senior Pst Okezie James Atañi, responded to a post by Davido in which the singer criticised APC supporters in Osun.
Davido had written:
“Anybody supporting APC in Osun state is an enemy of progress! Lessons will be learnt this weekend.”
Reacting to the statement, Atañi accused the singer of attempting to pressure voters emotionally and insisted that Osun State should not be treated as the personal possession of any political family.
He wrote:
“David Adeleke @davido emotional blackmail WILL NOT work this time…… Osun state is not FAMILY INHERITANCE.”
The post also featured an infographic titled “The Adeleke Family: Institutional and Political Power,” highlighting the political influence and public positions held by members of the Adeleke family over the years.
The graphic referenced the family’s political roots, including Chief Raji Ayoola Adeleke and the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, a former governor of Osun State. It also highlighted Governor Ademola Adeleke, who assumed office in 2022, alongside other family members who have reportedly held political or government positions.
Davido was also listed on the graphic in connection with the Osun Sports Trust Fund, while other relatives were identified as commissioners, local government chairmen and federal appointees.
The exchange comes ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election, which has attracted significant political attention.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, is seeking another term in office under the Accord Party. He is facing APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji in the closely watched contest.
Davido has openly thrown his weight behind his uncle’s re-election campaign and has participated in youth mobilisation efforts while repeatedly taking aim at the opposition on social media.
The latest exchange has therefore added another layer to the already intense political conversation surrounding the Osun election, with social media users continuing to debate the influence of prominent personalities and political families on voters.
