Jeff Bezos has become a minority investor in Liverpool after the Premier League club confirmed a major strategic investment involving the Amazon founder

Bezos will join a consortium known as 1892 Holdings alongside former Queens Park Rangers chief Amit Bhatia and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.

The group is set to acquire a one-third stake in Liverpool in a deal reportedly worth £1.65 billion, placing the club’s overall valuation at around £5.5 billion.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool’s majority owner, will retain control of the club and continue to oversee its operations.

Bezos joins Liverpool investment group

Liverpool confirmed that the investment is designed to support the club’s long-term ambitions and bring together expertise from the technology, business and investment sectors.

FSG president Mike Gordon welcomed the consortium and said its approach aligned with the ownership group’s long-term strategy.

“Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the club’s long-term interests in mind,” Gordon said.

He added that the consortium’s experience would complement the foundations already established at Anfield.

Bhatia will become Liverpool’s new vice-chairman as part of the agreement. The British-Indian businessman previously served as vice-chairman of QPR and has extensive experience in football and investment.

FSG retain majority control

Liverpool stressed that the transaction does not represent a takeover, with FSG retaining majority ownership and operational control.

The club said the new investors would work with its leadership to identify opportunities capable of strengthening Liverpool both on and off the pitch.

“The strategic investment supports Liverpool F.C.’s long-term growth ambitions by bringing together experts from across global business, technology, and investment,” the club said.

Bhatia said the consortium was proud to become an investor in the six-time European champions.

“We are incredibly proud to be investing in Liverpool Football Club and to be doing so alongside FSG,” he said.

“We have the utmost respect and admiration for FSG as owners and for everything they have achieved at Anfield.”

Bezos, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, founded Amazon and remains a major figure in global technology and business.

Saverin, who was among Facebook’s co-founders, is also part of the investment group.

The deal gives Liverpool access to additional financial and business expertise while allowing FSG to maintain control of the club.
