A Magistrate’s Court has remanded a man, Muhammad Najib Rimin Kebe, in a correctional facility over alleged theft of shoes at the mosque within the premises of the Norman’s Land Court in Kano.

The police arraigned the defendant before Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Magistrate Dayyabu Jamilu Hamza, on charges bordering on trespass and stealing shoes at the mosque.

The court directed Adam Salisu Tarauni to read the charges to the defendant.

After the charges were read, the court ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned further hearing in the case until August 28, 2026.

Earlier, the defendant was accused of repeatedly visiting the mosque within the court premises and stealing shoes belonging to worshippers.

Some complainants, including court workers, police officers, correctional service personnel and other members of the public, reportedly said they had been experiencing repeated cases of shoe theft at the mosque.
