Nigerian Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has reflected on his career, acknowledging that despite his commercial achievements and international recognition, he has yet to produce what he considers a mainstream hit song.
The Grammy-nominated artiste made the remarks while discussing his journey in the music industry and the milestones he has achieved over the years.
According to Seun Kuti, his career has brought him significant success, including multiple international awards. However, he noted that his accomplishments have not necessarily translated into having a widely popular mainstream hit comparable to songs that dominate the Nigerian music scene.
“I’m a commercially successful artiste and I’ve won multiple international awards, but I don’t have a mainstream hit song. I also have a collaboration with Janelle Monáe.”
The singer also pointed to his collaboration with American singer and actress Janelle Monáe as one of the notable international connections he has built through his music career.
