UEFA have opened a disciplinary investigation into Fenerbahce duo, Mason Greenwood and Matteo Guendouzi.
This follows the Turkish club’s 2-1 victory over Lyon in a Champions League qualifier.
The match ended amid ugly scenes involving Greenwood and Guendouzi who both previously played for Marseille, the rivals of Lyon.
Guendouzi showed a middle finger to Lyon supporters during the warmup and after the game and screamed “Allez l’OM” (“Go Marseille”), also grabbing his crotch, in wild post-match scenes.
It was not clear if UEFA will sanction the players before Fenerbahce begin the Champions League league phase against Roma on Thursday.
A Fenerbahce statement read: “Following the UEFA Champions League playoff round second leg match, UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against our players Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood, as well as against our club.
“Our club will present the necessary defences before the relevant UEFA bodies in order to protect the rights and interests of our players and Fenerbahce during this process.”
