A group of Christian elders from Northern Nigeria has called on President Bola Tinubu to stop the latest petrol price increase.

Northern States Christian Elders Forum has urged President Bola Tinubu to reverse the latest petrol price increase, warning that Nigerian patience with hardship should not be seen as acceptance.

The forum said another jump in petrol prices would squeeze household budgets further, already burdened by high food costs, transport fares and other expenses.

The elders called on Tinubu to focus on immediate pressures facing citizens including rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and decaying infrastructure. HireGrant Writers

They said the government should find alternative revenue sources instead of repeatedly raising petrol prices.

Citizens’ welfare must come before political calculations about future elections.

The forum acknowledged some administration efforts but said hardship remains widespread.

They cautioned Tinubu against getting advice only from officials or supporters painting a rosier economic picture than what ordinary Nigerians experience.

The elders said their members live among communities experiencing the crisis directly.

They cannot ignore the hunger, insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure decay and declining purchasing power that have left many Nigerians uncertain and hopeless.

They called for measures to cut living costs, restore household purchasing power, create job opportunities for youths, strengthen security and rebuild critical infrastructure.

The forum warned that continued public patience should not be taken as unlimited willingness to endure worsening conditions.

Government must show empathy, listen to people and act decisively to prevent further decline in living standards.

Nigeria belongs to everyone, they said, and every leader should care about the suffering of any Nigerian. JoinDiaspora Networks
