The Nigerian Air Force has signed an agreement to acquire 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters from Bell Textron in Amarillo, Texas.
The Chief of the Air Staff led a NAF delegation to the signing ceremony.
The acquisition is part of a Nigeria-US defence cooperation programme to modernize the Armed Forces and strengthen the country’s security.
The helicopters will enhance the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Chief of Staff said the acquisition represents a milestone in building a more capable and professional Air Force that can deliver airpower support to ground forces and achieve national security objectives.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security.
He also acknowledged the support of the United States Government, Bell Textron and other stakeholders.
The NAF delegation inspected the AH-1Z Viper production line at the Bell Textron facility during the visit.
This comes six days after the Nigerian Air Force took delivery of five new helicopters.
The platforms include three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters made by Leonardo Helicopters of Italy and two H-125 helicopters made by Airbus Helicopters.
The acquisitions show the Federal Government’s commitment to developing modern airpower capabilities and strengthening strategic partnerships for Nigeria’s national security.
