Nigerian singer and songwriter Ckay has opened up about some of the artistes who influenced his love for African music, highlighting the impact of MI Abaga, Ice Prince and Wande Coal on his musical journey.
The ‘Love Nwantiti’ crooner revealed that MI Abaga and Ice Prince played a significant role in making him develop an interest in Afrobeats, despite both artistes being largely associated with rap music.
Ckay also mentioned Mo’Hits, the influential Nigerian record label, while singling out former Mo’Hits star Wande Coal as one of the artistes who particularly stood out to him.
Speaking about the influence these artistes had on him, Ckay said:
“MI and Ice Prince made me fall in love with Afrobeats even though they were more of rap and Mo’Hits especially Wande Coal.”
