The Sokoto State Government has denied a report that 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology were abducted while travelling to Oyo State, saying the incident involved a former student travelling home with other passengers.
In a statement issued by Abubakar Bawa, Director General of Media and Publicity at Government House, described the report as false and said no current student of the private institution had been abducted.
The government identified the former student as Halima Sokeni, who graduated as a midwife from Gamji College of Nursing Sciences in the More Area of Sokoto in September 2026. According to the statement, Sokeni was travelling home on Thursday, October 1, when she and other passengers were abducted in Niger State.
The government said the disputed report had claimed that 18 students were travelling from the college to Oyo State in a chartered bus when suspected terrorists abducted them. It urged the public to disregard that account and appealed to journalists and media organisations to verify information before publication, warning that unverified reports could cause unnecessary panic and mislead the public.
