Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly vowed not to return to the Portugal national team following the latest developments surrounding his future with the Seleção.
The speculation comes amid growing uncertainty over Ronaldo’s international future after the veteran forward’s latest situation with the Portuguese squad. There are unconfirmed reports that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is considering stepping away from the national team, although there has been no official confirmation from Ronaldo himself that he has made a final decision.
Ronaldo remains one of the most important figures in Portuguese football history and has played a central role for the national team for almost two decades. His future with Portugal has therefore attracted significant attention as questions continue to emerge over his involvement with the squad.
The latest reports claim that Ronaldo has privately indicated that he does not intend to return to the national team. However, at this stage, this speculation rather than an officially confirmed retirement decision.
Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has previously stressed Ronaldo’s importance to the national team, while Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença has also indicated that there remains a strong relationship between Ronaldo and the national setup.
That has left the situation open-ended, with Ronaldo’s next move likely to determine whether the reports of an international exit eventually become reality. There has been no formal announcement from Ronaldo confirming that he has retired from international football or that he will never represent Portugal again.
