The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who disposed this in a statement on Sunday, October 11, 2026 said the suspects, Sunday Obasola, Kayode Bamikole, and Durodoye Ayobami, were arrested following a swift response to a distress call reporting the incident.

According to the PPRO, police recovered a motorcycle, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol, and one live cartridge.

“The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers following a swift response to a distress call reporting an armed robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout, Ibadan,” the statement read.

“The prompt intervention underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and preventing criminal activities across the state.

“The incident occurred on Thursday, 8th October 2026, at about 9:15 p.m., when the DPO Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received information that some armed men were attacking and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings around the location.

“Acting promptly on the information, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the team confronted the suspects, leading to the arrest of three individuals identified as Sunday Obasola, male, aged 29; Kayode Bamikole, male, aged 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, male, aged 23. The arrests also resulted in the recovery of items suspected to have been used in or connected with the criminal activity.

“The exhibits recovered include one black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol, and one live cartridge.

“These items have been secured as exhibits to support further investigation.

“During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, as well as injuring other persons during their criminal operations.

“The information obtained forms part of the ongoing investigation into the incident and the suspects’ alleged activities.

“Consequently, the three suspects remain in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, reiterates the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing, and sustained operations against criminal elements.

“The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the police.

“Timely and credible information from residents remains essential to strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Oyo State.”
