A woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a group of men has seen her father tragically slain after their family was pressured to drop the legal case.
The 58-year-old man was found hanged in Jaipur, India, three months ago. Local authorities have now officially launched a homicide investigation after initial reports pointed to suicide.
According to local police, the man was discovered near his residence back in July.
However, his wife has since revealed that the family had been receiving persistent death threats demanding that they withdraw the assault case.
The wife alleged that the four men accused in the assault of their daughter had been actively threatening them.
In her official complaint to the police, she stated that her 23-year-old daughter was abducted and assaulted back in June.
The daughter was reportedly released two days after her disappearance, at which point she recorded her formal statements with local investigators.
While the four suspects were subsequently arrested following the initial investigation, relatives of the family alleged that the intimidation tactics continued.
According to reports, the suspects demanded that the legal charges be dropped, allegedly threatening to target the father if the family did not comply.
The victim’s wife has accused the four suspects involved in the initial case of being responsible for her husband’s death. She further alleged that the individuals staged the scene to make the incident resemble a suicide.
While authorities initially registered the incident as an accidental death, a formal murder case has now been opened following the family’s complaint and subsequent police investigation.
