A woman has criticised veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri over his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, questioning whether the administration’s support for some entertainers is enough to justify another four years in office.
The woman, in a statement that has sparked conversations online, described the actor’s position as self-serving, arguing that the benefits received by some members of the entertainment industry should not be the only consideration when assessing the President’s performance.
She questioned why some actors would support Tinubu’s re-election simply because they believe he has been taking care of them, stressing that the country’s leadership should be assessed based on its impact on the wider population.
She said: “Nollywood actor Yinka is a longer throat for saying Tinubu is taking care of actors and that’s why he needs to win second term. So because the President is taking care of some actors, they are happy with him and believe he deserves a second term. Is that all it takes to deserve another four years in office?
“That’s how you all chased Jonathan away that year.”
Her remarks reflect the debate surrounding celebrity endorsements of political candidates, particularly when entertainers publicly express support for an incumbent administration ahead of another election.
While some public figures may point to their personal experiences or the benefits they believe they have received from a government, critics argue that political decisions should also take into account broader issues affecting Nigerians.
Yinka Quadri’s reported position has therefore drawn attention to the question of whether personal relationships and benefits should influence public figures’ decisions to support a president seeking re-election.
