Arsenal Football Club have addressed the controversy surrounding the absence of first-team defender William Saliba from the club’s official team photograph for the 2026/27 season, following questions from supporters and football fans.
The Gunners recently unveiled their official team photo on or the new campaign across the club’s social media platforms and website. However, the French international’s absence quickly became a major talking point, sparking discussions among Arsenal supporters and neutrals alike.
Given Saliba’s importance to Mikel Arteta’s squad, his omission from such a significant club photograph naturally raised eyebrows, with fans eager to understand why one of Arsenal’s key defensive figures was missing from the occasion.
Arsenal have now clarified the situation, explaining that Saliba was unable to attend the photo session because he had a scheduled medical appointment. The explanation puts to rest speculation surrounding the defender’s absence, suggesting that it was related to a scheduling issue rather than any reported disagreement or disciplinary matter.
Saliba remains an important figure in Arsenal’s defensive setup, having established himself as one of the club’s key players. His absence from the official photograph therefore attracted considerable attention, particularly as the image traditionally brings together the first-team squad ahead of a new season.
While the explanation has provided clarity on the matter, the incident highlights how even minor omissions from official club announcements can generate widespread discussion among football supporters.
Why was William Saliba left out of Arsenal’s 2026/27?
Arsenal’s explanation points to a medical appointment as the reason for Saliba’s absence, rather than any deeper issue involving the defender and the club.
