Police in Calabar have arrested four people over the alleged theft and destruction of electricity equipment.
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure in Calabar.
Police spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah announced the arrests in a statement on Friday.
The group includes a 36 year old principal suspect and three others arrested in a follow up operation.
Police say the arrests came after one suspect was questioned, which led officers to Murtala Mohammed Highway around Pepsi and a dumpsite in the Harbour area.
The alleged vandalism took place at Agbo Ntoe Layout, Boulevard Road 2, off Parliamentary Extension.
Five people were first picked up for questioning.
Two were released after preliminary checks found no link to the crime, leaving three additional suspects in custody.
Investigations are ongoing to establish each person’s role.
Commissioner of Police Ajo Ordue said the command will protect critical public infrastructure and prosecute anyone found guilty of vandalism or of receiving stolen electricity materials.
He asked the public to share credible information and to avoid buying materials suspected to have been taken from electricity installations.
