Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed that the country has no active Ebola cases following reports involving a Nigerian woman who travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for business.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the ministry explained that preliminary investigations showed the woman passed through Uganda in early October without displaying any symptoms.
According to the ministry, she developed symptoms after arriving in Nigeria.
Ugandan authorities clarified that her passage through the country does not mean she contracted the virus there, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine where she may have been exposed.
The ministry also disclosed that Nigerian authorities had yet to provide detailed information about the woman’s travel history and medical records, which would assist investigations and contact tracing.
“We wish to clarify that, as at the time of this statement, Uganda has NO confirmed active Ebola cases,” the ministry stated.
The government said it would strengthen health screening and other preventive measures at entry points while maintaining limited provisions for humanitarian and diplomatic travel.
It urged residents to remain calm, practise regular handwashing and sanitisation, and follow verified health updates.
“The Ministry will continue to share verified updates through its official channels,” the statement added.
