Former Chelsea attacking midfielder, Joe Cole, has weighed in on the Premier League title race this season.
According to Cole, Man City will only catch Arsenal if their legal team secures a victory off the pitch.
The backdrop to Cole’s comments is the Cityzens’ ongoing battle with the Premier League.
An independent commission recently found the club guilty of over 100 breaches of financial regulations spanning from 2009 to 2018.
The damning verdict alleged that Man City arranged “sham contracts” to artificially inflate revenues and mask costs.
In response, Man City board launched an appeal earlier this month, arguing that the commission’s ruling contained “clear material errors of law, principle and fact” and was “unsafe.”
Speaking on The Dressing Room podcast, Cole suggested that the destiny of the Premier League title now rests in the hands of the legal teams rather than the players.
“I think Arsenal,” Cole said when asked for his prediction. “If Man City’s lawyers go to work, they win the league.
“The lawyers are the most important people in this right now. If not, it is Arsenal and everyone else is just catching up.”
