West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo following a disappointing start to their Championship campaign.
The Portuguese manager’s final game in charge was Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion, a result that saw West Ham drop below their opponents to eighth in the table.
It was the club’s second consecutive home defeat after they lost 3-2 to Southampton on October 24, increasing the pressure on Nuno.
West Ham fall behind promotion contenders
West Ham were widely expected to challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League after their relegation last season. However, their performances have fallen short of those expectations.
The London club have recorded six wins, four draws and three defeats from their opening 13 league matches. They are now six points behind leaders Middlesbrough and four points adrift of second-placed Swansea City.
Nuno, 52, was appointed in September 2025 on a three-year contract after Graham Potter was dismissed. West Ham were 19th in the table when he took over, but he was unable to prevent their relegation, which was confirmed on the final day of last season.
Nuno’s second chance ends in dismissal
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest manager faced uncertainty over his position just months after arriving at the London Stadium.
West Ham opted to retain him in January, and the club reaffirmed their backing shortly after relegation was confirmed.
However, the decision to continue with Nuno did not produce the expected improvement in the Championship, with the latest run of results leading to his departure.
His dismissal leaves West Ham searching for another manager as they attempt to revive their promotion campaign and close the gap on the teams above them.
