Media personality, Do2dtun has praised gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey for choosing not to monetise his YouTube platform, despite its massive reach and potential to generate income.
Do2dtun made the remarks on X on Monday, following Bassey’s achievement of surpassing one billion all-time streams on his official YouTube channel.
The media personality said Bassey’s humility and decision to use the platform primarily for evangelism stood out to him.
Do2dtun commends Bassey’s purpose-driven platform
In his post, Do2dtun said the gospel minister had created the platform to win souls rather than make money from it.
He wrote, “He creates a platform to win souls; he does it with the utmost humility.”
Do2dtun added, “He created a platform that would have made him ‘cool money’ on a daily basis, but he didn’t. He created it for just one purpose.”
He described Bassey’s decision as selfless, noting that the channel had recorded a billion streams without being monetised.
Bassey’s YouTube milestone has been largely driven by the Hallelujah Challenge, his midnight praise and worship programme that has attracted participants from different parts of the world.
Nigerians debate whether the platform should be monetised
While some social media users praised Bassey’s decision, others argued that monetising the channel could provide resources for charitable work.
One user suggested that the revenue could support widows, orphans, rural health centres and job creation.
Another commenter urged the singer to monetise the platform and benefit from its success.
The debate has highlighted differing views on whether a platform created for evangelism should remain free of commercial income or use its earnings to support wider humanitarian causes.
