According to the counsel, the divorce was pronounced while Yusuf was nursing their 10-month-old baby.
Garba said his client currently lives with the six children at Sardauna Crescent in Kaduna and had asked the court to ensure that their father continued to meet their financial needs.
The lawyer urged the court to grant Yusuf custody of the children and compel Murtala to take responsibility for their feeding, school fees, medical expenses and clothing.
Lawyer asks court to order man to leave house
The counsel also requested that Murtala continue paying rent for the accommodation where Yusuf and the children reside.
Garba argued that the former couple were no longer married and asked the court to direct Murtala to leave the house to prevent any possible problems arising from their continued living arrangement.
“We pray the court gives Yusuf custody of the children and make Murtala take responsibility for all their feeding, school, health and clothing.
“We pray he continues paying rent for the house she is living in with the children,” the counsel requested.
The lawyer further appealed to the court to ensure that Murtala vacated the property, stressing that the former spouses should no longer continue living together following the divorce.
Court orders continued financial responsibility
After considering the request, Judge Mu’awiya Shehu ordered Murtala to leave the house occupied by Yusuf and their children.
The judge also directed him to continue providing for the six children despite the separation.
The order places continued responsibility for the children’s upkeep on their father, while Yusuf’s request for custody and other related matters remains before the court.
The case was adjourned until November 24 for further hearing.
