The new series The Football Interview, hosted by Kelly Somers, features in-depth conversations with top football figures, focusing on their journeys, mindset, and personal lives.

In this episode, Ollie Watkins reflects on his unconventional rise from non-league football to international success and playing in the Champions League with Aston Villa.

Watkins describes his early love for football, his setbacks with Exeter City academy, and how loan spells—especially at Weston-super-Mare—were crucial in shaping his development.

He credits hard work, timing, and a bit of luck for his rise, including a breakthrough moment that helped launch his professional career.

Despite past success, Watkins admits this season has been one of the toughest in his career, struggling to meet expectations after reaching a high level.

He highlights the importance of mental strength, support from people around him, and advice from former striker Michael Owen in dealing with challenges.

Watkins also praises manager Unai Emery for his विश्वास and support, even during difficult periods, which has helped him improve as a player.

Off the pitch, he emphasizes the importance of family, staying present with his children, and maintaining balance in life.

Looking ahead, Watkins remains ambitious, aiming for international selection under Thomas Tuchel and hoping to achieve further success, including winning the Europa League and playing at the World Cup.
