Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a 16-year-old girl, identified as Hajara Haruna, after she escaped from a suspected terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the rescue took place on November 2, 2026, when troops of 192 Battalion, under 26 Task Force Brigade, Sector 1, intercepted the girl around Hudugum Village in the Hambagda general area along the Gwoza–Limankara road.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that Haruna had escaped from an enclave occupied by Wa’a terrorists in the Mandara Mountains.
The rescued girl was subsequently handed over to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp office in Gwoza for further assistance and necessary procedures.
