Nollywood actor Afeez Owo has spoken about his 22-year marriage to his colleague and wife, Mide Martins.
In an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Afeez said he and his wife call themselves Iya Alekuleja and Baba Elere as pet names. Afeez noted that they aren’t the usual pet names, but they work for them because of the closeness they share.
The comic actor revealed that their marriage isn’t the kind where the husband has to be strict or the wife has to remain calm. He said they’ve built their marriage on balance, and God has been faithful to them.
Appreciating his wife, he thanked her for tolerating him, asserting that his wife isn’t a wicked woman, both at home and in public.
“I call her Iya Alekuleja, and she calls me Baba Elere. Those aren’t the usual pet names like dear or honey, but it works for us because of the closeness we share. Our marriage isn’t the kind where the husband has to be overly strict or the wife has to remain overly calm; we’ve built it on balance, and God has been faithful to us.
22 years of marriage is no small thing. Ajoke, thank you for putting up with me. I swear to God, my wife is not a wicked woman, whether at home or in public.”
In a previous interview, Afeez addressed the 2016 separation rumours involving Mide, revealing that it was the only serious fight they had ever had in their marriage; luckily, they reconciled. Afeez admitted that he didn’t handle things well and scattered things. He noted how social media made it worse because it was something they could have resolved privately. Fortunately, they overcame it.
Recall that in 2016, Mide had publicly called out Afeez for moving out of their house and abandoning her and the kids.
Refuting the claims, in an interview, Afeez said Mide took the wrong advice from friends who wanted to cause havoc in their home.
In December, while receiving the Best Actress of the Year award from OAFP, Mide knelt as she appreciated Afeez Owo for his constant support. She appreciated, as she noted how without him, there is no her. She thanked him for being there for her since she lost her mother.
Last year, at a movie location, Mide had showered prayers on Afeez. Raining prayers on him, she wished him success in life and prayed for him to keep soaring higher and for him to never crumble.
While Mide’s birthday in April, Afeez had churned out beautiful words for her. He described her as the love of his life, support system, one and only first lady, and Queen of his heart. He expressed how lucky he was to have her as a partner in life and appreciated her for always being by his side.
A day later, Afeez had also celebrated his birthday and Mide had described him as her backbone and supporter and affirmed her love for him.
