Akin Alabi has made a fresh claim about Governor Seyi Makinde’s 2027 presidential campaign, suggesting there may be more behind his decision to contest.

House of Representatives member Akin Alabi has claimed that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is not actually aiming to win the Nigerian presidency in 2027.

Speaking on radio FM in Ibadan on Tuesday, Alabi alleged that Makinde’s presidential campaign under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) is simply a strategy to boost the profile of his preferred candidate for the Oyo governorship race, Bimbo Adekanmbi.

Alabi argued that Adekanmbi would struggle to win against All Progressives Congress candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli without Makinde’s name remaining prominent on the ballot.

Despite Alabi’s comments, Makinde formally declared his presidential ambition in May 2026 under a PDP/APM alliance and secured the APM ticket.

He has actively campaigned nationwide, selecting former DSS Director-General Lawal Daura as his running mate while continuing to lobby for Adekanmbi as his successor in Oyo State.
