An Akwa Ibom resident Nse Obong-Inyang has called out the police over the alleged unlawful detention of his family members.
According to Inyang, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026 as his sister, mother were returning home from the church dedication of her 3-month-old son.
He explained that they were intercepted by police officers during a routine stop-and-search.
Despite providing clear evidence, including family photos proving the children belong to her, the officers falsely accused his sister of child theft.
He alleged that the officers seized her sister’s phone, and transported the entire family to the Sate Police Headquarters.
He stated that the family only became aware of the situation because his sister managed to send a quick audio recording to their group chat just before her phone was confiscated.
“Nigeria Police Force good evening. I just got a very annoying report from my sibling. Imagine a child I was at his dedication on Sunday today police on a stop and search arrested my sister that she stole the baby on a random stop and search in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, even after evidence of pictures on the phone and they ceased the phone and my sister and mom were taken to the state headquarters,” he wrote.
“Thank God she was quick to make an audio recording to our family group, we would have been wondering where a mother with her 3 year old daughter and 3 months old son plus our mom were. There was a country. The rascality in our police force is getting too much.”
