‎The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa State has clarified why former Governor and ex-Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, was left out of its recently constituted governorship campaign council.

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, explained the party’s position while responding to questions from journalists over the former governor’s absence from the list. ‎

Dangyatin said Badaru was not included because of his wider political responsibilities at the national level ahead of the 2027 general elections. ‎

He explained that assigning him to the state campaign council could restrict his involvement in coordinating the party’s activities across the country.

‎“Including the former governor in the governorship campaign council is like tying him down and restricting him from contributing to the party’s victory,” Dangyatin said. ‎

‎The Speaker noted that Badaru currently serves as the Director-General of Arewa for Asiwaju, a position that requires him to coordinate political activities across the northern region and the country. ‎

‎“The former governor is the Director-General of Arewa for Asiwaju. He is dealing with the entire region and the country,” he stated.

Dangyatin also dismissed suggestions that Badaru’s omission was connected to internal disagreements or divisions within the Jigawa APC. ‎

He insisted that there was no rift between the former governor and the party, maintaining that the APC remained united in the state.

The Speaker urged party members and supporters to disregard rumours surrounding the development and concentrate on mobilising support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
