Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has raised concerns over the alleged spending of funds from Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) dividends, claiming that each state should have received ₦250 billion from the proceeds.
Makinde also alleged that the Federal Government had indicated that state governors would not receive the money until after the 2027 general elections.
The governor questioned the decision to delay the release of the funds, asking whether electoral considerations should take precedence over development.
“Each state should get ₦250bn from NLNG dividends, but FG has spent it. They said they won’t pay state governors until after the 2027 elections. Are elections more important than development?” Makinde said.
His remarks have drawn attention to concerns about the management and distribution of public funds, particularly their potential impact on development projects across the states.

@The Pink Mask 🩷🎭:”₦250bn per state from NLNG dividends and dem dey hold am till 2027 because of politics?! 😭 Hunger dey tear country layout, but dem dey pack money reserve for election configurations. This one na pure wickedness pass layout wallahi! Development fit wait but votes no fit wait? 😡”
@Bulus Paul:”APC and Tinubu wants to halt all funds from political office holders so they won’t campaign to outshine them. They may even froze some state account if need be.”
@Jahbreez:”States are entitled to their share of the Federation Account, including NLNG dividends that flow through NNPC. Publishing the exact amounts received, remitted, and any outstanding balances would clarify this faster than election-cycle claims. Development depends on both the money arriving and how efficiently every tier of government spends what it already gets.”
