Nollywood veteran, Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has opened up about life at 65, revealing that he feels like he’s “living an extra time.”

RMD also relished being Nigerian and alive in a world where more people are self-employed than ever.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Moraya Show, the movie legend described his life as a one of gratitude.

“Being 65, I feel like I am living an extra time right now. My parents didn’t make 60.

“My life is one of gratitude. I’m happy to be alive and Nigerian at this moment where more people are self-employed than ever in the world,” he stated.

On the secret of his youthful look and vibrant energy at 65, RMD said, “I eat right and exercise.

“But there is something that I abide by which was said by another older person: the only way for an old person to stay young, is to never let the old person in.

“So, I do not in anyway let the old person in. I could have been dressing like an old person but I maintain classy fashion.

“My eldest child is 43, and till today, he still looks at me whenever I dress and just hiss. But I’m not giving up now. There’s no way I’m going to give up.”

Musician, Augustine Miles Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has sparked debate after claiming that the late music icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was not the sole originator of Afrobeats. “Fela is not the originator of Afrobeats,” Tekno stated during an interview on Hot 97 FM in New York. “Lagos people and the Yorubas might say he is the one, but I am from the East, and we had legends like Oliver De Coque. Oliver De Coque made pure highlife music. Highlife is also Afrobeats.” Tekno argued that Fela received primary credit largely because of his global reach. “Fela gets all the credit because he travelled and performed with his band around the world. To some people, he is the originator of Afrobeats, but to me, there are a bunch of them—legends that no one speaks about.” While acknowledging Fela’s influence and citing him as the inspiration behind his hit single Rara, Tekno emphasized his own musical roots. “I would say I was more inspired by Oliver De Coque and his peers from the East. My dad used to play his music a lot.”
