The Borno State Government has confirmed that 37 people, comprising 36 students and one teacher, remain in captivity following Monday’s terrorist attack on Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.

According to the state government, the victims were abducted while sitting the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations. Some of the abducted students were rescued by the military shortly after the att@ck.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, disclosed this on Tuesday during an assessment visit to Lassa, where he led a government delegation to meet with education stakeholders, community leaders and parents of the abducted students.

Wakilbe said those still being held comprise 25 female students, 11 male students, and one teacher.

He added that eight victims, including the school’s Vice Principal, have been rescued, while security agencies are intensifying efforts to secure the release of those still in captivity.

“The government is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of all those still in captivity” the commissioner assured
