Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has expressed concern over what she considers a growing lack of punctuality and professionalism among some actors in the Nigerian film industry.
Speaking during an interview on Jay On Air TV, the actress recounted some of her experiences on movie sets, particularly the habit of actors arriving several hours after the scheduled call time.
According to Wright, some actors who are expected to report to locations as early as 9am sometimes arrive around 2pm or 3pm, causing delays and affecting the smooth running of productions.
“Sometimes I will go to locations. These days, I will see a lot of actors that are meant to be on set by 9am just strolling in by 2 or 3pm,” she said.
Reflecting on her early days in Nollywood, the 59-year-old actress said the industry was more disciplined and dedicated to producing quality work.
“The old Nollywood, I’ll tell you, had the spice. They were wonderful actors and people were really dedicated to their jobs. Back then, we had a lot of discipline,” Wright said.
The actress also recalled the challenges she faced when she began her career, noting that the industry was largely dominated by men at the time.
Rather than allow the situation to discourage her, Wright said she was determined to establish herself and ultimately succeeded.
“I remember when I came in because it was mainly a men-dominated industry, but I was like, no, I’m going to do it. And I did it,” she added.
Although Wright spent several years away from the Nigerian movie scene, she has since returned to film and television and continues to contribute to the industry.
One of her recent projects is The Return of Omotola Johnson, which she produced, further highlighting her continued involvement in Nollywood.
