A Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Arinze Onwumelu, has shared the shocking story of how doctors in Nigeria make quick money by falsely claiming a patient has Appendicitis, wheel them into the theater just to pretend they carried out a surgery on them.

In a trending video, Dr Arinze mentioned that before relocating to Canada, he worked in Nigeria and Africa and experienced different sharp practices by his colleagues. He mentioned that one of those sharp practices was doctors falsely diagnosing their patient with Appendicitis just to make quick money. He claimed that the fraudulent doctors will wheel the said patient into the theater and feign they carried a surgery on them to remove the ruptured appendix. He mentioned that when such patients relocate, they discover that they never had appendicitis and that their appendix was never removed.

‘’There are things that are serious and should not be joked around with. I worked in Nigeria so I know what I am talking about because I witnessed it, I have seen it.

There are couple of doctors back home, in Africa generally, in the process of trying to hustle as they call it, they tell patients they have appendicitis, actually take them into the theater and just slice the skin, close it, and ask the patient to go. They did not have appendicitis. It was just a way of trying to make quick money. I am !00% sure of this because I have seen it.

Now the problem is, the person now comes abroad and gets the real appendicitis and comes to emergency and I will be running up and down like a headless chicken. I will be running up and down because the appendix scar is there. The patient knows she has had appendectomy and I can see the appendix scar. Everyone will be confused. CT scan is done and it shows the patient has acute appendicitis. Where was the appendix operation done, Nigeria.

There are things you should not do as a medical doctor, no matter where you are. No matter the situation or the circumstance”
