Chelsea FC interim manager Calum McFarlane says there is still “a lot of belief” the club can salvage their season despite a poor run of form that led to the exit of Liam Rosenior.
After a dip that led to Liam Rosenior’s abrupt departure, Chelsea’s interim manager Calum McFarlane stated on Friday that there was still “a lot of belief” that the Blues could turn their season around.
In an FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, the Stamford Bridge team will play Leeds in an attempt to regain some pride after losing five straight Premier League games without scoring a goal.
Tuesday’s 3-0 thrashing against Brighton was the tipping point for club executives, who ended Rosenior’s miserable tenure after just 106 days.
For the first time since Rosenior’s departure, first-team coach McFarlane, who previously briefly commanded Chelsea after Enzo Maresca left in January, addressed media on Friday.
Before it was modified, Chelsea’s webpage featured a photo of the former manager with the caption, “Watch Liam Rosenior’s press conference live!” minutes before he made an appearance.
McFarlane, a former Chelsea under-21s coach, was questioned about what had gone wrong at the team, where Rosenior and his players were allegedly at odds.
He was questioned about how he would handle the situation and asked if it was a “fair assumption” that the players weren’t playing for the management.
“Who is to say? He added that there had not been a clear-the-air meeting. “It’s not something I would comment on.”
However, the Englishman expressed confidence that Chelsea might salvage their season despite their seven losses in eight games.
“We’ve had some good games this year, good performances against top sides in recent history, but I know it’s been tough lately,” he remarked.
Thus, there is a great deal of talent. For their position, some of those players are among the greatest in the world. Therefore, we still hold a belief. We can reverse this and resume our season.
Estevao, a Brazilian winger, will miss the remainder of the English season, according to McFarlane, and he is not sure whether he will be ready for the World Cup, which begins in June.
“Unfortunately, Estevao won’t be playing for us this season,” he stated. “He will be absent for a short while.”
“We’re here to support him and be around him, but that’s really unfortunate, especially for someone so young and so talented.”
