Chelsea manager, Xabi Alonso, has confirmed that goalkeeper Robert Sanchez picked up an injury in training ahead of their pre-season friendly encounter with Tottenham Hotspur.
Alonso disclosed this to reporters at his post-match interview after Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Sanchez was a conspicuous absentee as Alonso’s side tackled Tottenham in Sydney’s Accor Stadium.
Answering a question on the goalkeeper situation, Alonso said, “Mike [Penders] is joining us in Hong Kong, and Robert has a minor [injury], not a big thing, but not for today, and we will have to wait until, let’s see, for the next week.
“We need to go assessing almost day by day, but there was no point in taking risks today,” Alonso said (via Football London).
Chelsea’s next friendly match is against Juventus on Wednesday.
