Controversial content creator Izzy Ogbeide has stirred massive reactions online after a video surfaced where she claimed that children are neither divine blessings nor gifts from God.
The mother of three described children as “an expensive subscription” and insisted they are a profound responsibility, rather than a spiritual handout. She argued that the practical challenges of parenting including significant financial, emotional, and personal sacrificesare often underestimated.
Ogbeide stressed that children are something parents create through their own efforts and hard work, contrasting this with her interpretation of divine gifts. She emphasized the financial burden of raising children, citing costs for activities like swimming lessons and daily needs, and questioned the concept of divine blessings when some parents struggle to provide food.
Her core argument, which quickly drew mixed reactions online, was explicitly stated:
“Children are not blessings, and they are not from God. Yes, I don’t care if you believe it or not. Children are from you, not God. They are not gifts. Children are an expensive subscription you can’t return or cancel.”
Ogbeide further elaborated on her theological and practical stance:
“Children are what you make they come from your hard work, not from God. What comes from God is something you don’t merit or work for. The Bible even says the blessing of the Lord adds no sorrow. Children bring responsibility, stress, and bills, so they are something you create.”
She concluded by challenging the notion of divine provision absent parental effort:
“Do you know there are people who can’t even feed their children? They have to beg before their kids eat. If children were truly from God, He would first bless the parents whether they work or not before giving them children. You don’t get it? or do you want me to speak in tongues before you understand?”
