A Magistrate Court at Nomandland in Kano has ordered the remand of a woman, Yasmin Shehu, in a correctional facility over the alleged k!lling of her boyfriend following dispute reportedly sparked by a phone charger.
The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 27 by state counsel led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkareem Kabir Maude (SAN).
The charges were read and translated to the accused by the court registrar, Mohammed Tudun Wada.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred during an altercation between the defendant and the deceased, identified as Aminu Wali, inside a room.
The prosecution alleged that the disagreement, which began over a phone charger, escalated into a physical confrontation.
During the altercation, the deceased reportedly sprayed tear gas on the defendant.
However, the accused allegedly seized the canister, sprayed it back at him and subsequently struck him on the head, leading to his d3ath.
The prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable the Ministry of Justice issue legal advice on the matter.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Abdurazak Abubakar, requested copies of the court processes and charges filed against his client.
Ruling on the applications, the presiding magistrate, Hauwa Abba Musa, granted the requests and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings.
The case was adjourned until July 7, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
