A major discovery at Lagos port has exposed how illegal drugs were allegedly hidden among imported vehicles and car parts.

Customs officers at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos have seized two 40 foot containers full of illegal drugs.

The drugs are worth an estimated N3.67 billion.

The drugs were hidden among used cars and car parts.

They included Delta 8 cannabis cookies and gummies, and cannabis.

The Tin Can Island Port Command’s spokesman, Oscar Ivara, shared the details in a statement on Friday.

He said the seizures were made by Customs officers working with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The first container was stopped on September 2 2026. Officers checked every part of it with NDLEA.

They found 890 packs of cannabis cookies and gummies weighing 598.08 kilograms.

The container also held two used cars, a 2008 Mercedes Benz and a 2012 Nissan Infiniti.

The second container was stopped on September 16 2026.

Inside were 1,207 packages of cannabis weighing 603.75 kilograms.

It also had two used Toyota Sienna cars, two used Toyota Corolla cars and used engine parts.

Ivara said the cannabis alone has a street value of N3.62 billion.

Together, the two containers held about 1,202 kilograms of drugs.

Ivara said the drugs will be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.

He warned smugglers to stop right away.

He also asked importers and clearing agents to follow the rules, saying real trade should never be used as a cover for crime.
