The EFCC has warned POS agents to stop helping criminals move money or collect ransom.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned Point of Sale (POS) operators in Nigeria to stop assisting fraudsters, money launderers, and kidnappers collecting ransom.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Commander Michael Nzekwe, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede raised concerns during a meeting with the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN).
He pointed out that many POS operators fail to keep basic transaction records, making it hard for investigators to trace dirty money.
Olukoyede urged the association to closely monitor its members, keep proper addresses, and weed out bad eggs who actively help criminals.
In response, AMMBAN National President Oti Obioha admitted that many agents do not fully understand the risks involved in their daily operations.
He asked for the EFCC’s help in training operators on compliance, tracking suspicious payments, and preventing financial crimes at the grassroots level.
