Former Chelsea defender, Jason Cundy, has backed Declan Rice to become Arsenal’s next captain if Martin Odegaard leaves the Premier League North London club.

Cundy described Rice as a defensive monster, adding that the England midfielder has brilliant control of the ball.

Speaking about Rice on talkSPORT, Cundy said, “Defensively, he’s a monster.

“When he goes forward, he carries the team. He’s brilliant and in control. I think he will be England’s next captain, and I think he will be Arsenal’s next captain.”

Odegaard has been linked with a move away from Arsenal at the end of the season.

But it is yet to be seen if the Norway international will end up leaving Emirates Stadium.
