Ex-Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, has said Arsenal will sack Mikel Arteta as manager, if they don’t win the Premier League title this season.

With nine rounds of game played so far, the Gunners have opened a four-point lead at the summit.

Eberechi Eze volleyed home a stunning effort as Arteta’s men edged a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

After coming close in the past three years, Rooney believes Arsenal now has a squad that can win matches in all types of ways.

Speaking on his BBC podcast, he said: “Arteta has got a squad now where they’re really expected to win the league.

“I think they can. The squad is good enough now and I think they’ve had the experiences which have got them close, but I think they’re ready for it, I think they’re ready to do it.

“There’s no excuses now, there’s no excuse. If they don’t win it now, you’d probably see a change of manager.”
