Calum McFarlane, Chelsea’s caretaker coach, has hailed captain Reece James in the wake of manager Enzo Maresca’s departure.

McFarlane referred to the England international as a ‘real leader,’ noting his crucial role in helping both players and staff prepare for the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday, McFarlane also commented on the Blues’ mentality ahead of the City clash at the Etihad Stadium.

“The players are focused and hungry,” McFarlane stated. “We have a massive game on Sunday.”

He went on to pinpoint James’s influence, saying, “Reece has been brilliant, he has been a real leader in the group and helped the staff and players to get ready for Sunday.”

Chelsea is looking to bounce back after their recent 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge in their last league encounter.
