Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has claimed Aston Villa are genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season.
Shearer stated this while speaking on BBC Sport following Villa’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Unai Emery’s men take on Arsenal next and have the chance to go level with the league leaders.
Villa have won their last 11 fixtures in all competitions and are the in-form team in the English topflight.
“We’re almost halfway through the season and it has to be said that Aston Villa are a genuine title contender,” Shearer said.
“Do I think they’ll win it? No, but that’s purely because the depth in their squad just isn’t there.
“But anything is possible under Unai Emery.”
